History

The Lethbridge and Area Metis has been in existence since the late 1980s.  Started by Elder Sophie Hiebert and Annie Cotton, the local was created to represent the cultural affairs of Metis peoples in an around Lethbridge.  

In 2024 LAMA changed its name and became an independent cultural association. Under our elected council and staff leadership we have flourished in our capacity to serve our community. Thank you for your participation and support as we work collectively to amplify Metis voices, create opportunities for leadership and community connection, and revitalize Metis culture and visibility in our area.
